Public speaking training: Effective speechcraft

(One-day public speaking training course held at the Institute of Directors*, 116 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5ED on dates to be advised from 09:00am to 5:00pm with coffee served from 08:30am)

Effective and inspiring public speakers know that the crux of what they do is heavily reliant on compelling speech content. Without this, an audience will remain unswayed by a message or argument put forward by the speaker. Consequently, effective speechcraft is critical to speaker success.

Clearly the ability to express oneself confidently and be at ease in front of others can bring great rewards. People able to express themselves well can persuade and motivate others. But public speaking is no quick fix: it requires a devotion to personal development and continual practise.

The purpose of this course is to build on the 'Public speaking: You can do it' training course by focusing specifically on speechcraft skills. Conducted within a supportive and encouraging environment, this one-day course will focus on the following:

* Why are good public speaking skills important?
* What makes for good speechcraft?
* The three Cs: Content, Content, Content
* Organising a speech
* Speaking to inform
* Speaking with conviction
* Evaluating others
* Developing impromptu speaking

Delegates will benefit from tuition from a facilitator who is a member of Toastmasters International, a global organisation devoted to the art of public speaking. The facilitator is an Advanced Public Speaker & Toastmaster and was runner up in the UK & Ireland Public Speaking Championships 2006. At the end of the session, each delegate will be provided with a comprehensive booklet that delves deeper into the art of communication and speaking in public.

Important note: This session is open only to those delegates who have attended the 'Public speaking: You can do it' training course.
