Public speaking training: Protocol for being a Master of Ceremony(One-day training course held at the Institute of Directors*, 116 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5ED on dates to be advised from 09:00am to 5:00pm with coffee served from 08:30am)
Over recent years, there have been an explosion in the delivery of conferences, seminars, exhibitions and presentations to prospects, customers, investors, media and other groups. And, of course, the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Key to this is the ability to run proceedings smoothly and, if chairperson, to be fair, firm and ensure that time keeping is rigorously applied. Whilst organisations think nothing of spending many thousands on a conference or event, sometimes little thought is given to the correct protocol for the proceedings of the day. Yet, if not properly conducted, poor protocol can severely effect an organisation's hard won reputation; it could be left in tatters. The purpose of this course is to build on the 'Public speaking: You can do it' training course by focusing specifically on a speaker's ability to run the proceedings of a conference, seminar, Annual General Meeting (AGM) or any other public gathering. Conducted within a supportive and encouraging environment, this one-day course will focus on the following: * The role of the Master of Ceremony or chairperson * Timekeeping * Speeches to introduce speakers * Thanking speakers * Answering questions * Presenting an award * Evaluating others * Impromptu speaking Delegates will benefit from tuition from a facilitator who is a member of Toastmasters International, a global organisation devoted to the art of public speaking. The facilitator is an Advanced Public Speaker & Toastmaster and was runner up in the UK & Ireland Public Speaking Championships 2006. At the end of the session, each delegate will be provided with a comprehensive booklet that delves deeper into the art of communication and speaking in public. * Note that the IoD operates a strict dress code of smart/casual wear. Guests wearing jeans, t-shirts, trainers or open toe shoes will be refused entry to the building. Click here for comments from public speaking delegates.
